1963Mirapur, Betul

Durga Das Uikey was born on 29 October 1963 in Mirapur, in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh1. His parents are recorded as Shri Surat Lal Uikey and Smt. Ram Kali Uikey.

Betul district sits on the Satpura range in the southern part of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra. It is a district with a substantial Scheduled Tribe population, and the Lok Sabha constituency that carries its name is reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates. His Lok Sabha category is recorded as Scheduled Tribe1.

His qualifications are recorded as an M.A. and a B.Ed. The parliamentary profile names the institutions: Jaywanti Haksar Government Post Graduate College, Betul; B.Ed. 1989A teacher for thirty years

Digital Sansad records that he served as a high-school teacher from 1989 to 20191 — a career that ended only when he was elected to the Lok Sabha. The profile adds that he regularly wrote articles for newspapers and lectured on issues of topical interest, and lists stage hosting and lectures in colleges and schools among his interests.

His principal profession is recorded as agriculturist.

1990Family

He married Smt. Mamta Uikey on 24 October 1990; they have one son and two daughters1.

Public lifeEarly public involvement

Long before his election, his record describes sustained work with social and cultural bodies. It notes two years as a teacher with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and continuing work through the Gayatri Parivar, the M.P. Shikshak Sangh (a teachers’ association in Madhya Pradesh), the Dharma Jagran Vibhag and the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad1.

The causes named in the same entry are afforestation, the eradication of malpractices, de-addiction campaigns, social harmony and national integration. His interests are listed as including kabaddi, kho-kho and cricket, as well as literature and writing.
