1963 — Born in Betul district

Durga Das Uikey was born on 29 October 1963 at Mirapur in Betul district, Madhya Pradesh, to Shri Surat Lal Uikey and Smt. Ram Kali Uikey¹. Betul lies on the Satpura plateau in the south of the state; it is the district he would go on to represent in Parliament more than five decades later.

His permanent address on the parliamentary record remains in Betul town, and his Lok Sabha category is recorded as Scheduled Tribe (ST)¹. The Betul Lok Sabha seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

1989 — Thirty years in the classroom

After completing an M.A. and a B.Ed. — his record names Jaywanti Haksar Government Post Graduate College in Betul, B.Ed. College in Khandwa and Sagar University — he worked as a high-school teacher from 1989 until 2019, the year he entered the Lok Sabha¹.

Alongside teaching, the record notes that he wrote articles for newspapers regularly and lectured on issues of topical interest, including in colleges and schools. His principal profession is recorded as agriculturist.

1990 — Family

Social and cultural work

His parliamentary profile describes long involvement in social and cultural organisations before and alongside his teaching career. It records that he was a teacher for two years with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and worked through the Gayatri Parivar, the M.P. Shikshak Sangh, the Dharma Jagran Vibhag and the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad¹.

2019 — Elected to the 17th Lok Sabha

In the 2019 general election he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Betul (ST) as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. His term in the 17th Lok Sabha ran from 23 May 2019 to 5 June 2024³.

From 13 September 2019 he served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Defence, and he was also a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Tribal Affairs². 2024 — Re-election and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs

He was re-elected from Betul to the 18th Lok Sabha in June 2024 and became Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Digital Sansad dates the appointment from 9 June 2024, the day the Union Council of Ministers was sworn in²; the Press Information Bureau records that he assumed charge at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, on 11 June 2024⁴.
